Beginning September 30 I will be teaching the following continuing education course through SMU’s CAPE  Institute for 5 consecutive Mondays at 6:30-8:00, ;

Understanding Traditional East Asian Medicine and Its Philosophical Foundations: Acupuncture, Tai Chi/Qi Gong, Chinese Herbal Medicine and the Yin/Yang

With its origins dating back 5,000 years, Traditional East Asian Medicine (TEAM) is a rich and complex system that encompasses acupuncture, tai chi practice, and herbal medicine. Based on a theoretical foundation and treatment approach dramatically different than western medicine, TEAM may provide a very effective complement to conventional practices and treatments. This course will unravel the mysteries of Traditional East Asian Medicine and will illuminate the principals and philosophy that guide TEAM practices.

We will examine basic theory behind Traditional East Asian Medicine and the 5 “Pillars” or main treatment modalities which derive from it; acupuncture, herbal medicine, Tuina or medical massage, dietary therapy, and Qi Gong and Tai Qi.  I am pleased to announce that the final class,  on Qi Gong /Tai Qi,  will be taught by Qigong Master Dr. Anh Tran of Tran Vitality Essentials, and will feature Qi Gong and Tai Qi demonstrations, as well as discussion of philosphy, theory and history.
